Graduate Students! SF State Ethics Bowl Planning and Interest Meeting
Overview
Fall semester is quickly approaching and with it comes a new Ethics Bowl season! For those new to Ethics Bowl, it is a competition like no other. Teams collaborate through civil dialogue to address contemporary ethical issues. What stands out about Ethics Bowl is that opposing teams can take the same side on a case; the judges evaluate the arguments and reasons used by each team, not whether a team is "right" or "wrong". The quality of argument wins the day and collaboration is key. This is Ethics Bowl.
We are working on growing our Ethics Bowl program. There are a variety of opportunities available from coaching a college or high school team for a semester to judging a mock competition for a day. This is a chance to develop your skills as a mentor, a coach, and a leader. Previous coaches have said that their experience coaching an Ethics Bowl team prepared them for teaching their own class as a GTA.
If you are even a tiny bit interested, please attend our initial meeting on Wednesday, August 4th, at 5 p.m.
(One of the reasons we are aiming to have a meeting before the start of the semester is because local San Francisco high schools start their Fall semester a week before the start of SFSU's semester. But even if you can't attend this first meeting, let us know that you're interested!! We'll keep you in the loop for chances to get involved!)
