Announcement: Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Political Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy is happy to welcome Nicholas Serafin as a Visiting Assistant Professor for the 2019-20 academic year.
Dr. Serafin received his JD from Yale Law School in 2012 and finished his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Michigan last spring. He has published and presented work on the basis of equality, equality and political liberalism, and on the 14th Amendment immutability criterion. He also has interests in immigration justice and immigration law. He has a great deal of experience as a legal intern and assistant attorney, working for the ACLU's LGBT Rights Project and The Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project.
As a visiting professor, Dr. Serafin will be counted among the graduate faculty, so he will be available to serve on thesis committees. He will also be teaching PHIL 720 Professional Development for Philosophers this fall. If you intend to apply for doctoral programs (including JD programs in law) this fall, or if you will be looking to apply for teaching positions, we recommend that you take PHIL 720 with him. We also expect that Dr. Serafin will teach a graduate seminar in the spring, perhaps on equality.
If you would like to write him about any of his courses or research, you can contact him at nserafin@umich.edu
